Stress is given to sentence structure, culminating in an ability to diagram simple, compound, and complex sentences by year’s end. Major units of study include sentence structure, verbs, prepositions, and the various phrases and clauses used in the English language. Practice is given in application of sentence structure through written compositions of various types of writing including expository, personal narratives, persuasive, and informational. Use of the writing process incorporating six writing traits is applied to all writing.
The English grade for report cards is 60% summative assessments, 30% formative assessments, and 10% Grading for learning.
